Supported files and limits
PDFs: maximum 50 MB and 500 pages per file. Images: maximum 20 files, 20 MB each. Word files: maximum 10 MB, DOCX only. No account is required for any basic tool.
Processing: entirely in your browser. Your file never leaves your device, is never uploaded, and is never stored.
Limitations — stated honestly
- Browser compression re-saves the PDF; it does not re-encode embedded images, so image-heavy files may shrink only slightly — and some may not shrink at all.
- Text and layout are preserved; no pages are removed.
- If the result is not small enough, try the tips in our guide to reducing PDF size, or re-export the source document at a lower image resolution.
Frequently asked questions
- How much smaller will my PDF get?
- It depends on the file. Text-heavy PDFs usually shrink; scanned, image-heavy PDFs may barely change. The tool always shows both sizes so you can judge.
- Will compression make my PDF blurry?
- This browser tool does not re-encode images, so it does not deliberately blur them. Quality settings affect how aggressively the file is re-saved.
- Does compression upload my file?
- No. Compression runs entirely in your browser.
